A major portion of Uttarakhand's first Signature Bridge, built at a cost of ₹76 crore, at Narkota on the Badrinath Highway collapsed on Thursday (July 18). Officials said the incident occurred around 5 pm when the tower of the bridge leading to Rudraprayag collapsed due to excessive weight, causing extensive damage to the frame.

2 pilgrims were washed away and about 40 were stranded in an unfortunate incident when a temporary bridge collapsed due to a sudden increase in water flow in a river at Devgad in Uttarakhand 8-9 km ahead of Gangotri on the Gomukh footpath on Friday. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team arrived at the location and assisted the stranded pilgrims in safely crossing the river after receiving the alert about the mishap. 16 pilgrims have been rescued, and efforts to save the remaining individuals are ongoing. On Thursday, the SDRF rescued 10 youths who were marooned on an island close to Robbers Cave in Dehradun.

Authorities have also issued a red alert as major rivers, including the Ganga, Alaknanda, Bhagirathi, Sarada, Mandakini, and Kosi, are flowing above their danger levels.
