Pooja Khedkar is an IAS trainee officer from the 2023 batch and had secured rank 821 (PWD-5) in the UPSC exams. The villagers of Khalapur Taluka in Raigad District have broken the dam gates and entered the dam premises and also closed the valves of water to Navi Mumbai to protest demanding jobs for the villagers and proper compensation to them. Around 3000 Project Affected People (PAP) of Morbe Dam have been protesting against the government at the Morbe Dam. “The valves were closed only for a short period of time and the water supply to Navi Mumbai won’t be affected,” a said an official from NMMC. After PAPs claimed that the water valves to Navi Mumbai have been closed since morning and there would be water crisis in Navi Mumbai on Friday, The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) officials have denied the same. “In the year 1990, the land of the villagers was acquired. We never got the right compensation or jobs. None of the Acts that are usually applied in land acquiring process has been implemented in this case. We have been told that Mantralaya has printed an order in our favour and we would receive it tomorrow but till the time I get to see it on my whatsapp, I wont believe and the protest would continued,” Arjun Kadam, another PAP said.

The cancellations of Canadian airline Westjet's 150 flights hitting 20,000 passengers followed after the union of maintenance workers called for a strike. The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association stated that its members began striking on Friday evening, June 28, due to the airline’s refusal to engage in negotiations with the union, which they deemed unavoidable. The strike occurred after the federal government issued a ministerial order for binding arbitration on Thursday, following two weeks of tumultuous negotiations with the union over a new agreement. The unexpected strike, impacting both international and domestic flights, is occurring over the Canada Day long weekend.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly urged the central government to scrap the test on a national level and approve the state’s NEET exemption Bill as they nanimously passed a resolution against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on Friday. The resolution, proposed by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, once again reiterates the state’s longstanding objection to the exam. The development comes at a time when alleged irregularities over this year’s NEET medical entrance test has kicked up a massive political storm. The resolution said and called for the abolition of the NEET examination system, which it described as “severely affecting the medical education opportunities of rural and underprivileged students and making school education unnecessary”. “The Union Government should immediately approve the NEET exemption draft bill unanimously passed by this Legislative Assembly to admit medical students based on 12th-grade marks. Given that several states are now opposing this examination system which has led to numerous malpractices, the Union Government should amend the National Medical Commission Act to abolish the NEET system at the national level,”
