Junior doctors protested near Lalbazar demanding the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal over his inaction in the case of the alleged rape and murder of a colleague. They refused to meet the police officers and continued their protest. CBI arrested R. G. Kar Medical College And Hospital's former principal Sandip Ghosh, on charges of financial irregularities. Meanwhile, the Bengal Assembly will discuss a new anti-rape bill today.

A statement by RSSB secretary Devender Sikri said: "Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon has nominated Jasdeep Singh Gill, son of Sukhdev Singh Gill, as patron of the RSSB Society with immediate effect from September 2, 2024. Jasdeep Singh Gill, 45, holds a PhD in chemical engineering from Cambridge and is an alumnus of IIT Delhi.

Uttar Pradesh Police has received a DNA report, linking former Samajwadi Party leader Nawab Singh Yadav to the case of rape of a minor girl in Kannauj. DNA match confirms his involvement. Yadav, who runs a private school, had provided his sample as per the court order. Further legal action is expected.

Former Pune councilor and NCP leader Vanraj Andekar was killed in a targeted attack by a group of bike riders in Nana Peth. In the CCTV footage, 12 attackers are seen firing guns and using sickles. Andekar was taken to KEM Hospital but was declared dead on arrival there. The police are investigating the murder.

IMD reports that Cyclone ASNA is weakening over the Arabian Sea and heavy rains are expected over parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Rainfall will be less in flood affected Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Delhi and Mumbai may receive light to moderate rain, while some areas of the Northeast will receive heavy rain.
