Amritpal Singh won the 2024 Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate from Khadur Sahib seat, defeating Kulbir Singh Zira of Congress by 1,97,120 votes. Former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi defended Singh, who is jailed under NSA for the violent incident, calling it a suppression of his free expression. Singh, who leads 'Waris Punjab De', was sent to Delhi on parole to take oath as MP.
